How Haanji works
- 1
Create your account
Sign up with your email and confirm you're 18 or older.
- 2
Build your profile
About ten minutes: who you are, what you're looking for, your lifestyle and values. Sensitive details are optional, and you can edit everything later.
- 3
A person reviews it
A trained reviewer checks every profile before it can see or be seen by anyone. They might approve it, ask for changes, or explain why it can't be approved.
- 4
Get 4 picks a week
Every 7 days you get up to 4 people who fit what you want, and who want someone like you. Each pick shows the real reasons you were matched.
- 5
Say haanji, or pass
Saying haanji sends interest. They have 72 hours to say it back. Passing is private, and nobody is told.
- 6
Talk for 7 days
When you both say haanji, a private chat opens for a 7-day introduction. No cold messages, ever.
- 7
Video call when you're both ready
When you're both comfortable, video call right in the chat to see you're talking to the real person, or swap Instagram handles. Neither happens unless you both agree, calls are never recorded, and afterwards you each privately say whether they looked like their photos.
- 8
Keep talking, or close kindly
Before the introduction ends, you each choose whether to keep talking. If you both do, the timer disappears. If not, the chat closes and stays readable.
Why the timers?
Endless apps fail in two ways: endless browsing, and conversations that drift for months. Short, clear windows help you make progress without pressure. Nothing bad happens when something expires. It just quietly closes.
You can pause matching any time, for example when things are going well with someone.
How matches are chosen
We only suggest someone when it works in both directions: who you each want to meet, age range, where you are and whether you'd move, where you each grew up if it matters to you (for example, only Canadian-born or American-born desis, someone local, or anywhere except certain countries), what you're looking for, and any dealbreakers. Then we rank by your match %, built from what you share: plans, values, interests, lifestyle, faith and distance. Tap "See how you match" on any pick to see every part of it.
We never use your ancestral village, income, education level or looks. If neither of you says faith matters, it isn't used at all.
Community (like Jatt, Saini or Ramgarhia) is a private, optional question. If you and someone you're matched with both add yours, you'll each see "same" or "different", and you can ask to see your own community a little higher in your picks. Nobody else ever sees it, and it never changes the %.
Five chat slots
You can have five things going at once: open chats plus interest you sent that's waiting for a reply. With a slot free you get picks and people can find you. With all five in use, new picks pause and nobody new sees you until one frees up. It keeps every chat meaningful.
Replies matter
Answer every haanji, even with "Not for me". Letting one expire, never writing back in an introduction someone started, or leaving a message unanswered for 14 days counts as a missed reply. Three in 90 days turns matching off. You can come back once after 14 days.
